Coconut oil is a fantastic hair and skin moisturizer. Make sure you buy the right one though. You want the organic and extra virgin – unrefined and cold pressed coconut oil which doesn’t have pesticides, bleaching, and any other synthetic ingredients added. More importantly, unrefined and cold pressed organic coconut oil retains antioxidants that are lost during other methods of processing. There are also tremendous health benefits of coconut oil which I won’t delve into in this post but if you are interested, you can read about it at Dr. Oz website: The Surprising Health Benefits of Coconut Oil and another great article is from authoritynutrition.com
Did you know that coconut oil is great for dry and flaking scalp? Similar to argan or Moroccan oil hair benefits, coconut oil is rich in vitamin E which can help strengthen hair and increase blood circulation to the scalp. Absorption is better if applied immediately after washing your hair. You will notice that organic coconut oil is solid in a jar if its below 75˚F or 24˚C. Don’t worry about it. It makes scooping up the oil so much easier. As soon as you have it in your fingers, the oil melts fast and all you need to do is gently rub it on your fingertips and it will be good to use. It is best to scoop a small amount, perhaps half the size of a penny, and slowly massage small amounts on your scalp and then your hair. I like to scoop a little at a time and work on different sections of my scalp. That way, my hair won’t look greasy. If you blow dry your hair often, rubbing a bit of coconut oil afterward will enhance shine and softness.
Coconut oil is also an excellent skin moisturizer. It absorbs quickly into the skin without being greasy. Don’t worry, you are not going to smell coconutty because the scent is very light and disappears after you apply it to your skin. You will notice the approved appearance of wrinkles and suppleness.
